Some venues just have that feeling when you arrive.
Bendooley Estate is definitely one of them.

It’s the kind of place where everything slows down a bit. The landscape, the light, the peaceful energy — it all feels effortless. I’ve photographed quite a few weddings here over the years, and no two have ever looked or felt the same.

If you’re planning a wedding at Bendooley, here’s what you can expect (and a few tips from behind the lens).

The Space

Bendooley is tucked into the rolling hills of the Southern Highlands, so you get that open countryside feel, without being too far from Sydney.

Whether you’re a planning of having your ceremony in the Berkelouw Book Barn, or overlooking the Stables, Bendooley offers a vibe that’s hard to replicate. I recently captured wedding here, where the lights where moody, romantic and cinematic. Bendooley’s best wedding photographer.

There are a few different ceremony and reception spots across the property. The Book Barn is a favourite — think high timber ceilings, candlelight, a fireplace in winter, and rows of old books lining the walls. Then there’s The Stables (a bit more modern) and some stunning outdoor options if you’re keen on a garden ceremony.

It all feels grounded and natural — beautiful, but never overdone.

The Light

This is the part I always get excited about.

Bendooley has some of the best light I’ve seen at a venue. In the afternoon, especially just before sunset, everything goes golden and soft. It’s perfect for portraits that feel relaxed and real — no awkward posing, just the two of you walking through the vines or the paddock, catching your breath after the ceremony.

We don’t need a big production. Just space, good light, and a bit of quiet.

A Few Things to Keep in Mind

  • Stay onsite if you can. The cottages are beautiful and make the whole day flow more naturally. Less rushing, more time to be present.
  • Weather’s not a deal-breaker. Rain? No problem. The Book Barn feels even more romantic when the fire’s going and it’s pouring outside.
  • Seasons matter. Autumn weddings here are unreal — the colours are next level. Winter has that moody, cosy vibe. Spring is lush and fresh. Summer’s all about long evenings and warm, golden light.

The Feel of the Day

Every time I shoot at Bendooley, the weddings feel personal. Never cookie-cutter.

It might be the layout of the place — or the kind of couples it attracts — but there’s always a sense of calm. People settle in, conversations linger, and things unfold at their own pace.

As your photographer, I’m not there to stage or direct too much. I’ll give you space, but I’ll also be where I need to be — catching the in-between stuff, the real moments, the people you love.
